Product Details

The Gau Wartheland badge was awarded for service to the Nazi Party. During the Third Reich, Germany was divided into about 30 political districts. Each of these districts, known as a Gau, was administered by a Gauleiter. As Germany annexed additional territory through diplomacy and conquest, new Gau districts were created. Gau Wartheland was one of four such districts that were established in Poland after the German invasion in 1939. The capital was Posen. The Gauleiter for Wartheland was SS Obergruppenfuhrer Arthur Greiser, who after the war was convicted of war crimes and hanged. This badge features the state eagle and swastika in silver encircled by a gold oak wreath. At the bottom is the 1939 institution date for the Gau. Our high-quality reproduction is made of copper-nickel, and is fitted with a simple pin-back.
